In Memory: Margaret Ann Summey, Campaign Worker For Carter, Clinton

Margaret Ann Summey, a founding member of the Bartow County Democratic Women, passed away on Tuesday.

The following obituary was submitted by Patrick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services:

Margaret Ann (Martin) Summey, 78, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at her residence following a lingering illness.

Born in Bartow County on Nov. 25, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Lee Martin and Lillian Ingram Martin. Margaret was a former employee of Bellsouth where she was a union activist for many years after which she worked for the National Council on Alcoholism.

She was a proud Democrat working in the Carter and Clinton presidential campaigns, Representative Darden and Fowler campaigns as well as many state and local campaigns. She was very active in fundraisers and was a delegate to national and state conventions serving on many committees. She was instrumental in forming the Bartow County Democratic Women in the 80’s and member of state committee. She aided many in need of assistance and guidance to local agencies for various services as long as her health permitted.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace Summey, a son Alton Summey, sister, Judy Eaves Mashburn, and a grand nephew, Jamey Greenway. 

Survivors include her daughters Terre Summey and Joette Posada; her grandson Trevor Summey; sister, Lynn Jenkins (John); nieces and nephews, Lisa Greenway Crisp (Jimmy), Nancy Eaves, Johnny Eaves, Greg Jenkins (Sheree), Taylor Eaves (Michele); grand nieces, Breanna Hyde (David), Ava Jenkins, Sidney Eaves; five great nieces and nephews, Alyssa Greenway, Greyson, Jace, and Nova Hyde, and Dylan Eaves along with many special friends, extended family and in-laws. 

Serving as pallbearers are John Jenkins, Greg Jenkins, Taylor Eaves, Jimmy Crisp, Trevor Summey, and Phillip Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Posada and Scott Allison. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2014 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Nathan Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
