Who Is in Control?

Are we allowing government and others too much control over our lives? When do we take responsibility for our individual lives?

In an interview on Fox News April 6, Dr. Winkenwerder, former Associate Defense, Health Affairs, 2001 through 2007, stated that in 2010 one hundred tons of oxycodone and hydocodone were prescribed in this country.

Compare to illegal drug use and ask yourself where should funds be spent to curtail drug use, illegal or legal prescriptions?

Seven million people use prescription pain killers and the death rate from legal drug use quadruples that of heroin and cocaine combined.

This interview was done in response to an earlier one in which the DEA is looking to pharmacies such as CVS and Walgreens by obtaining records.

In no way am I condemning nor condoning drug use but who should decide who gets to have a pain prescription filled and who is unworthy of having their pain, whether real or imagined, relieved? Should we leave this decision in the hands of "government" or continue to let the medical profession decide? And who out there can ever know a person's pain level?

And why are we shoveling money to rid the world of drug cartels when they are right here in our back yards? Are hospitals and waiting rooms the newest form of "drug dens?" Are the real culprits running loose in the medical profession?

Lots of questions here folks but the real question which bugs me is why should a government (agencies) have the power to decide who is worthy of receiving a prescription for a pain reliever? What next? Will 'it' decide who gets birth control, who lives and who doesn't, which child gets vaccinated first or doesn't receive a much-needed drug because of social, racial or gender bias?

Are we going to let this happen? Look to history for answers.
