The Leader of the Band

When I was growing up, I always dreamt of being a doctor. How I ended up writing, I’m not really sure. Nonetheless, it is good to have dreams. And if life twist and turns, as life will do. Make new ones.

Like these folks involved with the Cartersville Song Writers Exchange. They meet every Wednesday at Jefferson’s in downtown Cartersville. These singing, songwriting, musicians are living out their dreams.

All of their songs and music is original. I think it’s fascinating how someone can coordinate it all. I think of songs as tiny books. Each one tells a story, and everyone’s story is a bit different.

It’s a bit of a motley crew that shows up to perform. They have western singers, folk music, country, rock, blues, you name it. Something for everyone, and best of all it’s free! All you have to do is show up and listen.

The leader of the pack is Randy Owens, so I’m gonna bow out and let him tell you a bit about CSWE.

Randy Owens:  I come from a musical family, and that's just what we did at our house. At a very young age, my brother and I would play and sing harmony together. When we were in elementary school, we performed for the first time with two of our friends at the Milford Elementary School Talent Show. I started writing songs when I was 14 or 15 years old.

I started the CSE in March of 2010. I was looking for a songwriters group in the area, and there was not one, and I kept meeting songwriters, so I decided to start one.

We have approx. 30 members (both basic and premium). We meet every Wednesday at Jefferson's downtown Cartersville, in the downstairs area, from 7:30 to 9:30. Our premium members participate in monthly events. This month we are performing for the Cobb Library Association's Wild West Festival. Next we will perform at Taste Of Cartersville, and in May, we will play at the Liberian Orphan Aide benefit.
