Cartersville Man Bicycling from West to East Coast

Michael Schwart, a veteran who lost 50 pounds, reversing his diabetes, is raising money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Cartersville resident Michael Schwartz is riding his bicycle across the country to raise money and awareness for wounded veterans.

"Diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, Michael sought physical therapy at PT Solutions to prepare himself for an exercise program. Eventually, Michael began cycling and lost 50 pounds," said PT Solutions spokeswoman Grace Pulliam. "Now, he has reversed his diabetes entirely.

"As a religious man, the idea to cycle for veterans came to Michael in the form of a prayer. As a veteran himself, the Wounded Warrior Project resonated with Michael, so he set out to raise $50,000 for wounded warriors."

The Wounded Warrior Project provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life, according to its website.

Schwartz set out on his journey Sept. 1 in San Diego, CA, and plans to stop pedaling when he reaches Florida.
