At the Capital Today

I qualified to run for the State Senate District 52 seat.

It was quiet today when I arrived at the Capitol in Atlanta to file the affidavit to qualify as a Republican candidate for the new state Senate District 52. I went to third floor and found the registration area, filled with aides, administrators and notaries, and after completing the process, I met the Speaker pro tem Tommie Williams.

Before I headed back to Cartersville, I also spent some time walking around the Gold Dome and looking at statues, paintings and portraits there—a little private time with the Capitol with no one there.   As a veteran, standing there among portraits of men who have led on the battlefield—such as George Washington and Robert E. Lee I was inspired by how they helped shape the country. I also reflected that in that one building in Atlanta, policies are made that influence the entire State of Georgia. There is a sizeable amount of consideration with every decision made: if we do well, we will do well greatly; if we err, we shall err greatly. I’m tired of the errors.

I thought about the responsibility that I am undertaking, as I qualify as a candidate. Being able to make that decision, that commitment—you step forward, you understand the responsibility you take, and you lead. And the condition we’re in now, it’s time to perform instead of talking about the past.

As a state senator, I will bring energy to the table that cannot be matched.  As a foster and adoptive parent, a community leader who has worked with Civil Air Patrol as well as troubled youth and local law enforcement, and as a veteran—in addition to my breadth of experience in business and leadership—I can provide a positive influence, in support of fiscally conservative measures to help us live within our means, find solutions with what we have available to us, and making it happen—this is the example I want to set for Northwest Georgia.

I encourage those who share this vision to visit the web site www.haydencollins.org, read the biography and send an e-mail. Thank you for your support.
