Are There Sex Offenders on Your Child's Trick-or-Treat Route?

Bartow County has 204 registered sex offenders, most of whom live at Cartersville and Acworth addresses.

Halloween is tomorrow, and children will be knocking on doors throughout local neighborhoods trick-or-treating. But, could one of those bells be to the home of a sex offender?

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office's database lists 204 registered sex offenders who live in various areas, including some who are incarcerated or homeless. Most have Cartersville and Acworth addresses.

This time last year, Bartow had 179 sex offenders living in the county.

BCSO also offers Halloween safety tips, including:
  • Parents or responsible adults should accompany children 12 and younger; Responsible children older than 12, who trick-or-treat without and adult, should stay in groups and follow the agreed upon route; 
  • Teach your children to never enter any home with you or your permission; and 
  • Teach your children to say NO and GET AWAY from any person or situation making them feel scared, uncomfortable or confused, event if it means yelling, kicking, attracting attention or any other means of resistance.
