Dalton-based StrongHouse Productions presents the 2013 Junkyard Dog CrossFit Discernment Urban Challenge on Saturday, January 26, featuring a 5K-Plus race and eight challenging, yet fun urban obstacles, with a distinctly southern flare.  For those who register by 1/1/13, the cost will be $65 for individuals; $240 for four-person groups and $60 for members of the military, fire and police departments.  All participants will receive a T-shirt and medal. The challenging, yet fun-for-all race will begin at 8 a.m. Waves of runners will be scheduled to start every 15 minutes. The last racers will depart at 3:45 p.m.

Created for individuals and four-person teams, the race will take participants of all skill levels through a concrete jungle featuring eight challenges incorporating kettle bells, tires and sandbags all with a unique southern-flare. (Look for the occasional old clunker on concrete blocks!)

The Junkyard Dog event starts at the Super Body Fitness Center at 701 South Hamilton Street in downtown Dalton, located off I-75 at the Walnut Street Exit. From I-75, follow the signs to Downtown Dalton, located just one hour from north Atlanta and 30 minutes from Chattanooga. Parking is free and spectators are encouraged to cheer on families, friends and coworkers. To register go to https://www.edgereg.com/registration/event/955.  To get additional information, visit www.jdcrossfitchallenge.com or email junkyardchallenge@gmail.com or junkyarddog@edgereg.com.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Homer’s Heroes (www.homersheroes.org), which helps to place service dogs with veterans, and City of Refuge in Dalton http://cityofrefugedalton.org/, an organization that provides practical, emotional, and physical assistance to those in need.

Note:  As of 1/2/13 (until 1/25/13), prices increase to $75 for individuals, $70 for police and military and $280.00 for teams.
