Dean Sheridan Pulls Out Senate District 14 Race

Sheridan made the announcement Saturday morning during a Cherokee County Republican Party debate for the Georgia Senate District 14 race.

A southwest Cherokee County business man has dropped his bid to become the next Georgia state senator to represent District 14.

Dean Sheridan, who has come under fire for allegedly failing to pay withholding taxes, announced on Saturday he was pulling out of the race.

Sheridan made the announcement during the Cherokee County Republican Party's Saturday breakfast meeting and debate for the District 14 candidates. He noted that "rumors and false accusation" have taken a shape of their own within the race.

"My greatest fear is that by continuing my campaign...we together will leave the door open for a candidate in this District 14 race that does not hold our values, our ideology, and our core principles and split the upcoming vote in District 14," he added. "With this, I refuse to take this risk for all of you."

Sheridan, along with Cartersville Republican Matt Laughridge, had the validity of his candidacy called into question. Both went before an administrative law judge last week to answer questions surrounding whether they are qualified to run for the post.

The judge is expecting to make a recommendation on the validity of Laughridge's candidacy to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp in the coming days.
