Cartersville Senate Candidate's Name To Remain on Ballot, Says Secretary of State
Matt Laughridge meets the residency requirement to hold the State Senate District 14 seat, according to an administrative law judge and Brian Kemp.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp this afternoon issued a final decision on a challenge to Cartersville resident Matt Laughridge's State Senate candidacy for the District 14 seat.
"Having considered the facts and circumstances of this case, it is hereby decided that (Laughridge) is qualified to be a candidate for Senate District 14 and that his name shall remain on the ballot," Kemp wrote in his final decision, above.

Laughridge is vying for the seat vacated by Barry Loudermilk, along with four other candidates:
- Republican Nicole Ebbeskotte of Woodstock,
- Republican Dwight Pullen of Canton,
- Republican Bruce Thompson of White in Bartow County and
- Democrat Christopher G. Nesmith of Adairsville.
The winner of the Nov. 5 special election will represent portions of eastern Bartow, western Cherokee and a very small portion of northeast Cobb County in the Georgia General Assembly.
Loudermilk last month resigned to focus on his bid to become the next U.S. Congressman from Georgia. He is running for the Georgia District 11 seat to replace Phil Gingrey, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
