Did you attend the Bartow BOE meeting?

As education continues to be a major topic, so do budget cuts in our schools. Did you attend the meeting or what do you suggest would help us today with the new journey we are all about to face?

As I hear many packed into the central office of the Bartow County Board of Ed building tonight, what do you truly think is going on? Talk of budget cuts, more furlough days, sports programs, and redistricting were all thrown on the table.

I read many statements made during the live chat, and I also feel like our children continue to sacrifice, "making school fun" while learning, while we all sit around and allow it to happen. We vote into office who we feel would make the best decisions for our children inside their schools. Do you feel the board has made the right decision? I believe they have definitely done their homework in looking into what would save us money and allow our children to be offered the best education possible.

The comment that stuck in my head the most was, "I don't need books, paper, or pencils, just warm bodies in a chair and I will teach them." This is what our system is about and I don't know about you all, but there is not one teacher that I have met in Bartow County that is not dedicated to the students inside his or her classroom.

When I heard that my street was listed as one to be moved to another school, I was very sad. All my children have gone to the same elementary school and with the possibility of changing brings sad thoughts. We love everyone at our school, why us? While I worry that my two youngest children will be moved away from the other place they call home, I also worry about what will happen to the teachers and staff at their school.

In order to survive this economy we have to pull together as a community and do whatever we can to save jobs, shift people around, and be supportive of the angels that help make our children successful. The BOE may not be perfect, but they have gotten us this far in this terrible economy. Support of our teachers, librarians, coaches, and administrative staff, as they are essential in the success of our children.
