Shaw To Break Ground on New Adairsville Plant in Mid 2014

The biggest Bartow employer and world's largest carpet manufacturer will create 340 jobs.

Bartow's biggest employer is set mid 2014 to start constructing its seventh facility in the county, Attorney Boyd Pettit said.

Sole Commissioner Steve Taylor approved Wednesday an incentive agreement between Bartow County, the Development Authority of Bartow County, the city of Adairsville and Shaw Industries Group Inc., which follows the memorandum of understanding and August announcement the world's largest carpet manufacturer would invest $85 million in a new plant at Highway 140 and Hall Station Road.

Patch has requested a copy of the agreement, which Pettit said is expected to be approved Thursday by the development authority and city of Adairsville.

In Phase I, Shaw will build a 600,000- to 700,000-square-foot facility on 117 acres and create 340 jobs, according to the MOU and incentive agreement, Pettit said. The documents say Shaw may expand the facility up to 1.1 million square feet and create up to 650 full-time equivalent positions in Phase II, according to Pettit, who added "there is no guarantee" of a second phase.

The new plant in the city limits of Adairsville will manufacture modular carpet tiles.
