Restaurant Review: Gondolier Pizza

A family-friendly restaurant with an extensive menu.

located at 407 E Main St. does more than just pizza! Despite its name, the restaurant’s extensive menu boasts everything from traditional Italian fare to Greek and Mexican offerings, too. This variety is what sets Gondolier apart from other local pizza places.

The restaurant is casual, spacious, and the perfect place to bring a sports team after a big game, or any group of rowdy kids, because it has the vibe of a fast food spot, but the food is tasty and fresh. You place your order at a counter but they bring the food out to your table. The kitchen is open so you can keep an eye on your food being prepared (if you’re noisy like I am!). It’s also fun to watch all the different kinds of pizzas and other dishes coming out of the kitchen!

I went to Gondolier Pizza for lunch with my husband on a weekend. We wanted to sample the different types of cuisine off the menu, so we ordered Buffalo Wings (10 wings for $7.95), a Greek Salad (a large for $5.95), a Veggie Special Personal Pizza ($4.95) and Chicken Souvlaki on Pita ($6.25). Yes, we were hungry!

The wings came slathered in a spicy sauce with dressing and celery sticks on the side. They were juicy and had a nice amount of meat on the bones. The Greek salad was fresh and we really enjoyed the log of fresh feta cheese on top. It was definitely the highlight of the salad! Other ingredients included iceberg lettuce, black olives, sliced tomatoes, green peppers, red onions and a pepperoncini pepper.

The Chicken Souvlaki on Pita was fantastic and such a fun find since I haven’t come across any other Greek offerings in Cartersville (Let me know if I’m missing something!). The sandwich comes with tender, marinated white meat chicken served on a pita with tomatoes, onions and Tzatziki sauce. The chicken was savory, the pita was soft and the Tzatziki sauce was cool and creamy. On the side of the sandwich were fries and a pickle. The fries were crispy and perfectly salted. All together, this meal was fabulous and hit all the right flavors combinations to really be pleasing to my palate.

The Veggie Special Personal Pizza was, as advertised, the perfect size for one person. It comes with cheese, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, olives and tomatoes. I asked for mine without olives and the gentleman taking my order suggested I substitute something else in their place. I thought it was nice he made that suggestion and didn’t charge me any extra to substitute spinach. The dough was thick and chewy and the vegetable toppings were plentiful and crisp.

Overall, Gondolier Pizza is a great family restaurant for Italian food and more. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. They offer a β€œ2 for 1” special whereby if you buy one pizza you can get a second of equal or lesser value for free! Visit their website to view the menu and call 770-386-2200 for takeout.
