Plans Take Shape for Mini America Park at LakePoint

The miniature replica theme park would consist of American landmarks constructed on a 1:25 scale and be included in the massive LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center development near Cartersville.

Eric de Groot's plans for a miniature theme park at LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center outside Cartersville in Emerson call for miniature replicas of familiar landmarks across the country.

Sites to be considered for The Mini American Park include several natural phenomena and tourist attractions—from Alaska's glaciers to Utah's Mormom Temple to Florida's Disney World.

Georgia sites on the table include Atlanta's Martin Luther King Jr. Center, the Georgia Aquarium and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the antebellum houses of Savannah.

de Groot was inspired by Madurodam in The Netherlands—home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch places—that's seen about 50 million visitors since 1952, according to the website.

Mini America would consist of 1:25 scale models of "historical and natural attractions representing American culture, history and uniqueness, [and] presented in a beautiful garden setting."

The development has committed to 6 acres at the $1 billion Bartow County sports complex, but hasn't purchased the land, according to Judy Sparks, LakePoint's partner and chief marketing officer, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

"Surrounding and supporting" Mini America would be shops, restaurants and facilities for meetings, conventions and special events. It also would include small amusement rides for children and high-tech simulators of exciting experiences for people of all ages, according to the flyer, attached in .pdf.
