Giant, Interactive Heart to Highlight Hospital's Heart Health Event

Health screenings and scans along with various demonstrations and giveaways are on tap Saturday for Cartersville Medical Center's Cartersville Has Heart.

Valentine's Day is over but February continues to be all about heart. If you were ever curious about the real thing, Saturday holds a special treat—a giant, interactive heart.

For its second year in a row, is set to host , a community-wide heart health event. New this year is the world’s largest interactive, anatomically correct, inflatable walk-through heart exhibit.

AmeriHeart provides an interactive educational component for all ages, hospital officials said in a release.

“We want to offer fun, educational activities—especially for children—because we know heart disease and diabetes can develop as a result of obesity," Director of Cardiovascular Services and registered nurse Sarah Demmin said in the release. "Educating our children early about their heart, eating healthy and the importance of good nutrition habits is key.”

Set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the , Cartersville Has Heart is designed to increase overall awareness of the signs and symptoms of heart disease, and features free health screenings, heart healthy nutrition and fitness information, and demonstrations.

In addition to cooking demonstrations and samples by the hospital’s registered dietitians and fitness demonstrations by and , local emergency medical services providers along with various hospital departments will show how they handle real-life emergencies with mock scenarios.

While health screenings—blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, height and weight, and body mass index checks—will be free, Redmond Regional Medical Center's AngioScreenÔ Scan Van will offer testing for $40. 

AngioscreenÔ is a non-invasive vascular screening designed to provide information about a person’s circulation and determine his or her risk of heart disease or stroke.

CPR with Mickey will take the stage for a CPR demonstration, and a fashion show by , featuring new spring outfits for women, children and men, is set for 2 p.m.
