Bartow Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly

The county's unemployment rate matches the state's adjusted rate.

While 's unemployment rate saw a slight uptick from 8.8 percent in April to 8.9 percent in May, it saw an overall decrease from May 2011. Last May, the county's unemployment rate was at 9.6 percent, almost a full percent higher.

In May 2012, Bartow had a labor force of 49,026, with 44,671 employed and 4,355 unemployed. In comparison, there was a labor force of 48,607 in May 2011, with 43,936 employed and 4,671 unemployed.

Bartow's current unemployment rate is the same as the state's adjusted unemployment rate. Surrounding counties with higher unemployment rates include Floyd at 10.3 percent, Gordon at 10.2 percent and Polk at 9 percent. Surrounding counties with lower unemployment rates include Cherokee at 7.1 percent, Cobb at 8.1 percent and Paulding at 8.3 percent.
