The Atlanta Steeplechase, a nonprofit that benefits the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine and Zac Brown's Camp Southern Ground, is set for April 13 at Kingston Downs in Bartow and Floyd counties.
Now in its 48th year, the daylong event expected to draw 20,000 people to the track off Highway 411 in between Rome and Cartersville, has some new offerings, including a raffle for the one-year lease of a new Hyundai Equus, the Budweiser Clydesdales, the PeopleChase 5K race and an air show, according to the press release.
The top Steeplechasers in the country are expected to show up for thoroughbred racing, with four races over brush jumps and one turf race, and a total purse of $80,000.
Additional activities include Jack Russell Terrier races, a hat parade and contest, pony rides, hay rides, camel rides, rock climbing, shopping and live music.
While they're set to appear Friday, April 12, on Broad Street in downtown Rome from 5 to 7 p.m., the Budweiser Clydesdales will be seen again Saturday during pre-race festivities at the Kingston Downs track, beginning at 9 a.m.
General admission tickets, $30, are available through Ticketmaster via the website, by phone and at Ticketmaster outlets in Publix stores. Children 12 and younger are free.
