Advocates Names Hospital Community Partner of the Year

Cartersville Medical Center supports Advocates for Children through sponsorship of special events, volunteerism and board representation.

At the nonprofit’s annual meeting, Advocates for Children named its Community Partner of the Year.

A benefactor since the mid 1990s, Cartersville Medical Center has supported Advocates for Children through sponsorship of special events, volunteerism and board representation. Most importantly, the medical center actively supports First Steps, a program that provides the earliest possible intervention for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

First Steps volunteers visit with new mothers and their newborns at Cartersville Medical Center to provide education, support and a connection to emotional and physical resources.

“The enthusiasm and efforts of the nursing staff at Cartersville Medical Center enable our First Steps program to assist hundreds of new mothers every year,” says Patty Eagar, executive director of Advocates for Children.  “We are tremendously grateful for this partnership and for the hospital’s efforts to ensure that Bartow County is a great place to be a child.”

At yesterday' annual meeting, Advocates presented the hospital's CEO Keith Sandlin with a "beautifully unique award," handmade by residents of Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by Advocates; I applaud the great work that is being done every day to educate and support new mothers by First Steps volunteers and our Mother/Baby staff,” Sandlin said. “Our community’s children deserve the right to live in a safe, happy and nurturing environment and we all share in the responsibility of ensuring that right.”

Advocates for Children is a local charity that provides shelter and services to aid in the treatment, prevention and awareness of child abuse.

In 1985, opened as the agency’s cornerstone initiative.

Over the years, the organization expanded and now, in addition to First Steps for new mothers and their infants, offers programs that touch the  lives of more than 2,500 youngsters and families each year—Bartow CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates); A Better Way Children’s Advocacy Center; Supervised Family Visitation; Project Safe Place; Rainbows grief care; and TransParenting.
