Ghosthunters: Reality or Smoke and Mirrors?

I always heard that ghosts won't hurt you, but they may make you hurt yourself.

Break out the infrared cameras, turn on the K-2 meters, start the digital voice recorders rolling, find an old house or other place that "has a reputation" and go ghost hunting.

With Halloween approaching, I have to wonder if there is anything to this ghost hunting phenomena. Many of us have seen the popular TV program Ghost Hunters that features two plumbers and their associates wandering through the halls of some of the nation's storied and scariest places.

This program seems legitimate enough. Two guys who debunk more than they prove: etherial voices that seem to materialize from nowhere, electronic gadgets that respond to asked questions, and the occasional infrared camera footage of human-like forms. Is it real?

I have always maintained that there is much out there that we can't explain with pure science or linear logic. My good friend, while laying up in a field hospital in Vietnam after being shot up, carried on a conversation with a soldier laying on a gurney next to him. Later when he told the story of the soldier's name and hometown, he finds out that the soldier was not alive during this conversation.

Is my friend's story true? Absolutely. He remains  bothered by this 40 years later.  How could this happen? I don't know.

It seems to make sense that spirits, whether they are ghosts or other forms of energy must exist. Logically, if you believe in God, you accept that there is an afterlife. If you accept that an afterlife exists, is it not a small leap that there may be some way to communicate with them?
