Students' Work To Go on Display

Booth Western Art Museum is gearing up for its annual display — Cartersville and Bartow County Schools Art Show.

on Friday announced the opening of the annual Cartersville and Bartow County Schools Art Show in the Borderlands Gallery.

On view from April 12 to May 12, the yearly exhibit features up to five works of art from each local city and county elementary or primary schools.

For the third year in a row, art teachers from each of the as well as city of Cartersville and schools, have selected four two-dimensional and one three-dimensional piece from their school to be represented in the show. All of the artwork displayed are pieces created by students, kindergarten through fifth grade, throughout the 2010-2011 school year.

A three-dimensional paper mâché mask, Wolfe, by Deondre Aaron, a fifth-grade student at , was selected by his art teacher, Cindy Collar, to be exhibited.

While selecting only five pieces of artwork from the entire school year is not always an easy task, art teachers view this annual exhibition as a way to highlight the hard work and creativity of their students.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the creative talents present in our schools,” Collar said.

The Booth's director of Education, Lisa Wheeler, agrees the yearly exhibit is a great way to recognize students’ artistic talents.

“We are thrilled to host this annual exhibit to not only recognize these talented students, but to support them as they gain a better appreciation for art and art museums," she said. "After all, it’s quite an honor to have one’s artwork hung in a world class art museum like the Booth.”
