Pumphouse Players Open 'Extremities' Friday

Shows of the dark, edgy drama are set for the next two weekends at the Legion Theater.

Pumphouse Players continues to explore darker and edgier productions for its show of the season.

Extremities, the group's upcoming production at the in Cartersville, is the hard-hitting and intense play. Directed by Barry King and starring PHP veterans Stacy Vaccaro and Kip Henderson, the show takes the audience into the dark space in between attacker and victim.

Set in a house occupied by three young females, the action follows the consequences of an attempted assault on one of the girls. During the ultra-violent attack, the tables are turned on the assailant and, as the play progresses, vengeance is delivered.

But the violence isn’t all physical. As the would-be attacker is tormented, he enacts his own form of retribution by playing mind games on the roommates and turning them against one another.

Extremities opened off-Broadway in 1982 with Susan Saradon in the lead role of Marjorie, to be played in the local production by Vaccaro. However, most audiences are probably most familiar with the 1986 film version starring Farrah Fawcett.
