Movies Filmed in Cartersville Will Soon Debut

Three projects were filmed in Cartersville in 2012 and 2013.

Three movie projects filmed in Cartersville will soon come to a screen near you. The three movies and TV shows will hit small and big screens this month and in May.

“We are happy that residents and others who know Cartersville will have an opportunity to see our locations on screen,” said Ellen Archer, Camera-Ready Cartersville administrator and Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director.

The first project is “The Red Road,” an all-new SundanceTV original series, airing each Thursday at 9 p.m. EST. The series stars Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Tom Sizemore and Julianne Nicholson.

Viewers may recognize scenes, which were filmed in August 2013, from Red Top Mountain, River Road, Kingston, Acworth and downtown Cartersville. Archer noted that signs were changed on Cartersville’s historic train depot to set the stage for Walpole, New Jersey.

“Need for Speed” opens in theaters on Saturday, March 14. The Dreamworks Pictures film stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, and Michael Keaton.

The action-packed drama was filmed on rural roads of western Bartow County. The project filmed here in June 2013 with a crew of 175.

In the summer of 2012, the cast and crew of "Devil’s Knot" began filming filming at the historic 1903 Bartow County Courthouse. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Stephen Moyer and Bruce Greenwood.

Based on a true story, the film told in Mara Leveritt's 2002 book of the same name, concerning three teenagers known as the West Memphis Three, who were convicted for killing three young boys and subsequently sentenced to life in prison.

Devil’s Knot, directed by Atom Egoyan, opens in theaters May 9, 2014.
