'The Frankenstein Summer' by Pumphouse Players

Pumphouse Players presents The Frankenstein Summer.

"If you think our weather has been strange, the Pumphouse Players are here to say, 'You should have been around in 1816!'" director Suzanne Husting said in a statement. "That's when their latest attraction, The Frankenstein Summer takes place."

Although the title sounds like a horror show, Husting hastens to correct that impression.

"This is actually a witty British 'dramedy' that centers on several famous literary figures of the Romantic period," she added. "Not that there aren't plenty of fireworks, thunder and lightning to liven the scene!"

The cast includes Mike Davis as George Gordon, Lord Byron, described by contemporaries as "bad, mad and dangerous to know."

Lord Byron was also the pre-eminent poet of his time, living in self-imposed exile from England on the shore of Lake Geneva the summer of 1816.

Joining are Adam Kelley as the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley; Morgan McCrary as his future wife, Mary Wollstonecraft; and Jen Garrett as Mary's stepsister, and one of Byron's many lovers, Claire Claremont.

Rounding out the cast are Mike Harris, as Byron's butler and Will Brooks as Dr. John Polidori, whose diaries provided a deliciously detailed record of the events and the persons involved.
