Astronaut Story Musgrave to Speak at Tellus

Former NASA Astronaut Story Musgrave, who flew in six shuttle missions, will speak at Tellus Science Museum.

Musgrave is well known for being part of the crew that repaired the Hubble Space Telescope and will speak on this very important mission. He is the only astronaut to have flown on all five shuttles.

Musgrave has a long list of accomplishments. He has an undergraduate degree in chemistry, master’s degrees in computer programming, chemistry, physiology and biophysics, and literature, and an MD degree. He has been a marine and air force pilot, has logged 17,700 hours in 160 different aircraft (military and civilian), and has made 800 free fall parachute jumps.

In 1967, Musgrave was selected as a scientist astronaut by NASA, and worked on the development of the Skylab program, and on the design of the spacesuits used by shuttle astronauts. In 1983 he was in the maiden flight of the shuttle Challenger, and participated in five other military and scientific missions, including the repair of the Hubble.

The lecture is free to members and included with regular admission to non-members.

Reservations, which are strongly recommended, can be made at 770-606-5700, extension 431. Reservations will be taken until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. The remaining seats will be on a first come, first serve basis with overflow seating available to watch a live stream of the lecture.
