Celebrity Death Hoax: It's Still 'Helloooo Newman' (Not Goodbye)

Actor who played Jerry Seinfeld's nemesis is still kicking.

Reports of the death of Wayne Knight, who played Jerry Seinfeld's rotund nemesis and chronically disgruntled mailman, were apparently greatly exaggerated.

Or, more accurately, made up.

News of Knight's death hit the web on Sunday, apparently first "reported" by a website spoof of TMZ. The site reported that Newman, make that Knight, of Cartersville, was killed when a tractor-trailer near the Pennsylvania-New York border.

"Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed, but….I am alive and well!" the actor posted on his Twitter account after the phony news spread.

Knight currently stars as Haskell Lutz on the TV Land show "The Exes."

Although reports of his death were false, the benefits to the number of his Twitter followers is real.

"Thanks to the small town of new followers who came onboard just to tell me they’re glad I didn’t kick!" he said. "I feel good about the result as well."
