Booth Museum To Celebrate Birthday with Party, Member Appreciation

Set for Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., visitors to the Cartersville museum will enjoy a variety of activities and displays.

Ten years ago this month, Cartersville's Booth Western Art Museum opened its doors to welcome its first visitor. It's inviting members and guests to celebrate what it calls the culmination of 10 spectacular years with a Museum Birthday Party and Member Appreciation Day, set for Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“The Birthday Party is a fun filled event and a great way to celebrate the museum,” Director of Marketing Tom Shinall said in a release. “However, the event is not just about the museum. It is an opportunity for us to say thank you to our members and the community.”

The Booth Birthday Party and Member Appreciation Day will provide a day full of fun with entertainment, food, and activities. In the Booth Ballroom, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a traditional hot dog lunch including slaw, beans, chips, cookies, soda and water, plus cupcakes and birthday cake will be available. Lunch is free for members and will be available to not-yet-members for $5.

A commemorative visual presentation of the museum’s 10 year history will be shown once an hour, on the hour, beginning at 11 a.m.

At 12:30 p.m., children can answer the call to justice by participating in our very own Lone Ranger Contest. Boys and girls are encouraged to come dressed as their best Lone Ranger; Lone Ragerette or Tonto and prizes will be awarded for the best costume by a boy and a girl.

Throughout the rest of the day in the Ballroom, children and adults can enjoy carnival games and will be able to challenge their presidential knowledge with a game of Presidential Trivia.

At 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Booth Theatre, a special performance of “Billy Goat Gruff and Other Stuff” will be performed by All Hands Productions Puppeteers. From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sculpture Court, children will enjoy art activities by creating their own carnival mask, circus animal or carousel horse.

In addition to the activities, visitors will have the opportunity to see demonstrations by local artists.

This year, the Booth has a birthday surprise for visitors as well. The unveiling of a new display of decorated objects from cowboy culture will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Modern West Gallery. The display will be located with the Native Hands exhibit and will be alongside the Native American objects.

A second tour of the cowboy culture display will take place at 2:15 p.m.

Admission to the Booth's Birthday Party and Member Appreciation Day is free for Booth members. General admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and over, $7 for students, and free for active military with I.D. and children 12 and under.
