Expect another hot, mostly sunny day in Cartersville, says the National Weather Service. The high temperature is expected to reach 93 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Tonight, the temperature will fall to 72 degrees, with a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. There will be 5 mph northwest wind that is expected to die out tonight.

Things You Should Know

  • have made in the Aug. 5 robbery and assault at the Pine Grove Church. The suspect, 17-year-old Jerry Jerome Kilgore, is thought to be involved in other similar incidents by police. Additionally, Kilgore has been charged with reeving stolen property stemming from a car break-in during May.
  • The is hosting a symposium on fluorescent minerals on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speakers include John Rakovan, mineralogy professor at Miami University of Ohio, and Earl Verbeek of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. The event will be free to Tellus members and the cost of regular admission to nonmembers.
