Local Author to Give Lecture, Sign Books
A reception for Wesley Lamar Harris will be held at 6 p.m., and the lecture begins at 7 p.m.
Author Wesley Lamar Harris will give a lecture and sign copies of his book Taylorsville School 1900-1966 tonight at the Emmie Nelson Public Library in Euharlee.
The book will be available for purchase and signing by Harris during a reception given in his honor from 6-7 p.m. and again following his lecture, which begins at 7 p.m.
Harris will present a PowerPoint lecture on the Taylorsville School and some of its distinguished graduates who have made significant contributions to society. Taylorsville School no longer exists; however, the town of Taylorsville, under the direction of Mayor Cary Rhodes, and the Bartow County School System by direction of Superintendent John Harper, are sponsoring an application to the Georgia State Historical Society for a historical marker to be placed on the site of the former school. The book was written in response to public demand after Harris helped significantly with the Euharlee Historical Society’s popular Heritage Book.

Prior to the reception, the Euharlee History Museum which is next door to the library and to the historic covered bridge, will extend its daytime hours to be open until the time of the reception.
Harris, a graduate of Taylorsville School, has two degrees from the University of Georgia, including a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with majors in mathematics and soil science.
