Leave Food Donations Near Your Mailbox

The "nation's largest single-day food drive" is this Saturday.

Millions of American families need food assistance, and the National Association of Letter Carriers this Saturday will hold what organizers say is the nation's largest single-day food drive.

The association collected more than 73 million pounds of food during last year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to Michael Miles with the United States Postal Service.

More than 200,000 pounds of that was collected in metro Atlanta, he said.

The United States Postal Service wants people to step up to the challenge again.

Saturday, the agency is urging everyone in Cartersville and beyond to leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near their mailboxes. Letter carriers will pick up the donations, which will be delivered to local community food banks and food pantries for distribution.
