Celebrate the Summer Solstice With Hikes

Folks in Cartersville can celebrate this Friday's Summer Solstice with a pair of hikes.

To mark the first day of summer, the Parks & Recreation Department is hosting hikers and amateur astronomers on guided hikes on Pine Mountain Trail on Friday.

The hikes depart from the West Trailhead at I-75 exit 288 east and end at the David G. Archer Overlook for a view of Allatoona Lake, the Etowah River Valley and the city of Cartersville.

For the morning hike, arrive at 5:30 a.m.; for the evening hike, arrive at 7:45 p.m.

A moonlight hike will follow Sunday. Hikers should meet at the above location at 8 p.m.
