Cartersville Farmers Market Returns In June

The market will be held on Wednesdays evenings and Saturday mornings starting June 4.

Cartersville residents will have less than a month to wait for the return of the local farmers market.

Opening day for the 2014 season of the Cartersville Farmers Market is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 4. This year's market hours have changed: the market will be open every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

The markets will be held in the Founder’s Oak Parking Lot across the street from Cartersville City Hall.

The Cartersville Farmer’s Market will feature a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh flowers, crafts and more.

“All farmer’s market spaces have been filled, coming to a total of 40 farmers participating,” said Special Events Coordinator Catherine Woods. “We are very excited about having such a large group of farmers this year; a bigger market only makes for a better market."

For the 2014 season, the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority wants to see more community turn out for the markets, and they plan to add some form of entertainment at least once a month to accompany the market sessions.

For example, Woods said the DDA plans to add kid's activities for the market scheduled for June 21 and Etowah Valley Yoga will visit on June 28 to lead a yoga class. On July 19, the yoga group will return to hold a Qigong class.

Furthermore, the 2014 Tomato Festival is expected to return on Saturday, July 26.
