Cartersville DDA Plans 'Selfie' Photo Scavenger Hunt Contest

The contest allows residents to take photos of themselves at various downtown Cartersville locations.

The Cartersville Downtown Development Authority wants to see just how creative residents can get in their attempts to master the art of "selfies" taken at downtown establishments.

The DDA is announcing its first Downtown Photo Scavenger Hunt contest. The hunt involves participants taking creative photos of themselves, known as selfies, at various downtown businesses and locations.

The hunt will start on April 25 and will continue through May 2, leading up to the DDA's First Friday event for the month. Contestants will have a week to attempt as many of the photo challenges they can.

The challenges will be assigned point values depending on difficulty. For example, one challenge could be for residents to take a photo of themselves on stage at Friendship Plaza for one point or take a photo of themselves eating dinner at their favorite downtown restaurant for three points.

Participants may enter the contest by either emailing all of their photos or bringing their camera or phone to the depot to let the judges score the photos.

The participant with the most points will be announced the week of May 5, and will receive a $100 Visa gift card.

“The scavenger hunt will be a great excuse to bring family and friends to restaurants, shops, and other attractions here in Downtown Cartersville,” said Special Events Coordinator Catherine Woods. “Additionally, May is Historic Preservation Month, so it will also help teach people in our community a little more about the extensive history of downtown.”

The event is free and no registration is required. All contestants have to do is print off a list of challenges and complete as many as they can before turning the photos into Cartersville DDA by 5 p.m. Friday May 2.

Participants can either email their photos to cwoods@downtowncartersville.org, or stop by the Cartersville Welcome Center, located at 1 Friendship Plaza in downtown Cartersville.

The list of challenges can be found on the DDA's website or on its Facebook page starting April 25. A hard copy of the challenges will also be available at the Welcome Center.

"We are hoping that this will be a fun way for patrons to discover new things about downtown Cartersville," Woods added.
