Brrr: Temps Dip, Winds Whip

Following a mild New Year's Day, the lowest temperatures of the season are coming our way.

Bundle up and prepare to send the kids back to school tomorrow wearing plenty of layers, as gusty winds today give way to low temperatures in the teens.

Bartow County, including , along with the rest of north and central Georgia, is under a Wind Advisory beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. It warns of sustained winds up to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, which can make driving difficult, especially for those with high-profile vehicles.

But that's not the worst of it. The high today is expected to stay below 45, and tonight will see the mercury dip into the high teens while 15-mph sustained winds continue with gusts up to 25 mph, NWS forecasts.

Brace for an even colder one Tuesday, when the high is forecast to sit just above freezing and the low to reach down to the mid teens.

WSB-TV Meteorologist Brad Nitz said the front that began moving in last night will bring some of the coldest air we've seen since this time last year, when up to 6 inches of snow locked down transportation and .

The good news this year: For the first week of 2012, no precipitation is forecast. By Friday, high temps are expected to return to the 60s.
