5 Things: 4th of July Celebration in the Works

What do you need to know today? A lot happens in our not-so-little city, but we'll keep you informed.

1. It's another sunny day with a slight chance thunderstorms could roll in after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Expect a high near 94 and a low near 65.

2. With the hot weather come Air Quality Alerts. Code Orange is in effect again today, and means the air could be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Cartersville and others in the metro Atlanta are could see more and higher alerts as the Environmental Protection Agency considers more stringent standards. Read more about it from the AJC here.

4. The Optimist Club is working hard planning the annual Fourth of July celebration, .

Independence Day festivities are set for Monday, July 4. The parade begins downtown at 9 a.m. followed by activities at starting at 10 a.m. Camel rides and a petting zoo, craft vendors, food and drink, vocal entertainment and fireworks are on the docket.

5. For updates to the big story of the week β€” pain clinic involved in multi-agency probe β€” click . Eleven people, all from other states, were arrested by local authorities in the Tuesday raid. The federal government will prosecute another part of the case.
