Rain Turns Chance of Snow for Cartersville

A wind advisory and flood watch also are set for Bartow County.

A day and night of steady rain coupled with dropping temps means a slight chance of snow for Cartersville on Wednesday morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a wind advisory and flood watch for Bartow County.

Wednesday holds a chance of rain and snow before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of snow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the NWS' forecast for Cartersville

A strong storm over the northern Gulf of Mexico will continue to move northeast, spreading rain across north Georgia through Tuesday night, according to NWS' special weather statement. Much colder air will begin to spread across north Georgia late Tuesday night and Wednesday and rain will become mixed with snow, beginning across extreme northwest Georgia after midnight and spreading across the rest of north Georgia by daybreak Wednesday morning.

The rain-and-snow mix will become all snow across the mountain counties of north Georgia and snow amounts of a dusting to a half inch are possible north of a Rome-to-Jasper-to-Cleveland line. One to 2 inches of snow accumulation are possible in the higher elevations of the mountains.

A wind advisory in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday warns of northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. High winds could down weak trees and tree branches, make driving high-profile vehicles difficult and lead to frostbite if a person is not properly clothed.

A flood watch in effect since 7 a.m. Tuesday remains active through Wednesday morning, and warns of storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches. Storm drains and ditches may become quickly clogged with debris and leaves, which could cause extensive street flooding and road ponding.
