First Friday New Year Celebration Tonight in Downtown Cartersville

A variety of retail and service shops will stay open until 8 p.m.

Downtown Cartersville is set to be buzzing with activity tonight.

Today, Jan. 3, is the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Program's First Friday event, New Year Celebration.

"In addition to a variety of retail and service shops remaining open until 8 p.m., the First Friday of every month, there are also bluegrass pickers and other musicians throughout downtown providing some great musical entertainment," according to a DDA release.

Downtown businesses and the DDA encourage patrons to "come downtown to shop, dine and play!"

Themed first Friday events for the remainder of 2014 are set as follows:

  • Feb. 7: Love is in the Air
  • March 7:Mardi Gras
  • April 4:Stampede in Downtown 
  • May 2:Dos de Mayo
  • June 6:Downtown Luau
  • July 4:Land of the Free
  • Aug. 1:Summer of Love
  • Sept. 5:Buy Fresh, Buy Local
  • Oct. 3: College Tailgate Party
  • Nov. 7:Hometown Thanks
  • Dec. 5: Cozy Christmas
