Cartersville Dog Found Wandering in Middle of Texas Highway

Now called "Tyson," he was in good shape, except for peeled paw pads, but rescuers after nearly a month can't find the owners.

A dog with Cartersville tags was found wandering along a fast-moving highway in Texas nearly a month ago and rescuers still can't find his owners.

Now called "Tyson," the black-and-white mixed breed is likely at least 5 years old and "in great shape," according to redditor audreyruth234, who posted her story on the online bulletin board, Reddit.
"Hey Georgia. I found this guy in the middle of an East Texas highway this weekend. All he had was a rabies tag which I tracked down to the Bartow Animal Hospital and vet clinic in Cartersville, Georgia," she wrote. "He was just in the middle of nowhere in Texas with peeled paw pads and a 5-year-old rabies tag.

The dog, which is neutered, is in great shape, according to audreyruth234, but his tags are outdated and no longer show up in vet records.

"That's the kicker: no fleas, great coat, very clean dog and why was he in the middle of a 75mph highway in east Texas? What got me the most is EVEN IF his owners never saw any of the signs I put up, in those small towns, SOMEONE would have recognized him," she wrote, referring to Found Dog signs she placed in the two nearest Texas towns. "I just don't see how someone can take good care of a dog and then not be looking for him. Makes no sense."

Tyson's future isn't certain.

"The SPCA won't take him and every no-kill shelter in Houston is foster-based and I'm afraid that prolongs his adoption process," audreyruth234 wrote. "I'm starting to think he was dumped. It happens a lot in the country. I'm going to look at some rescue groups in San Antonio and see if they can take him but I don't know."
