5 Places To Cool Off in Cartersville

Pools, ice cream shops and museums are some local places to avoid the heat. Where do you go?

Only a slight chance of rain threatens the remainder of the week and weekend, and today's high is expected to reach the hottest temp of the week—88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

1. Lake Allatoona 

Whether you're ready for long swim or just want to get your feet wet and feel a cool breeze, Lake Allatoona offers a number of parks, boat ramps and day use areas. 

Bartow Beach, adjacent to Bartow County's Gatewood Park in Cartersville, is open and welcoming swimmers for a $4 parking fee. Riverside Day Use Area on the other side of Allatoona Dam offers access to the Etowah River.

2. Pools

The city of Cartersville operates two public pools—one at Dellinger Park and another at its Aubrey Street Recreation Gym. Click here for more information, including times and fees.

3.  Museums

Visit one of Cartersville's three museums on a hot day. Choose from the Bartow History Museum, the Booth Western Art Museum and Tellus Science Museum.

4. Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt Shops

Cool off with a sweet treat at one of Cartersville's ice cream or frozen yogurt shops, which include Coconuts Ice CreamCity Swirl Frozen Yogurt and TCBY. We also spotted a new Menchie's Frozen Yogurt shop by Bojangles on East Main Street.

5. Library

The Cartersville Public Library offers a number of summer and reading programs in addition to books and films Bartow County residents can take home for a time for free.
