Our weekly list of health-and-safety-check results includes Cartersville restaurants and lodging facilities inspected from May 14 to 18.
Bartow County Environmental Health conducts inspections of local establishments to give patrons a snapshot of the operations of the businesses. Its goal is to provide consumers information to help protect themselves from the risk factors linked to illness and injury. Items on inspection lists have point values ranging from 1 to 9 points and are deducted from a best possible score of 100. Higher points are deducted for items with higher risks to cause illness. Repeat violations also cost establishments more points. Four team members and three apprentices participated in the event in Albany.
Cartersville Electric System did exceptionally well this year with two second place awards in the May 5 Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo in Albany. The team won two awards—the Municipal Division for Journeyman Event A-3 Suspension Bell Change Out 25 KV and the Municipal Division for Division Journeyman. Winning journeyman team members in the 2012 rodeo include: Additional team members who competed in apprentice events include: Kevin Bishop also served as a Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo judge. The rodeo teams consisted of three members, two climbers and a ground person; the teams had a coach as well. Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown was pivotal in Georgia Highland College's new student center, set to open in time for fall semester.
Georgia Highlands College bestowed an award on Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown recently at its first fundraising gala celebrating the institution’s achievements throughout the past year. The event was held at Cartersville's Clarence Brown Conference Center and hosted 300 supporters. Randy Quick, general manager of Rome Radio Partners and a foundation board trustee, served as master of ceremonies. GHC Foundation trustee and longtime friend Tommy Strickland presented Brown with the Heritage Award for his many years of work and outstanding contributions to Cartersville and Bartow County. “I can think of no one who has worked harder and is more deserving of such an award," he said. In this letter to the editor, Tracy Rogers of Cartersville says the Georgia Department of Transportation's financial mismanagement would continue with TSPLOST funding if voters approve the regional, one-cent sales tax. To the editor, It was not surprising to read that the Rome Chamber of Commerce announced its support for the upcoming TSPLOST ballot initiative in July. The representative of Georgia’s 11th district discussed the economy, gay marriage, Obamacare and this year’s presidential race Monday night.
