The representative of Georgia’s 11th district discussed the economy, gay marriage, Obamacare and this year’s presidential race Monday night.
On the heels of President Barack Obama's stated support of gay marriage, Congressman Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, who represents Cartersville and Bartow County, addressed the issue during a town-hall meeting Monday night at Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw. “I don’t like the secularism that’s occurring in this country one bit and I think it is incumbent upon those of us [that] stand strong, to stand very strong, in regard to that and say ‘look, Billy and I believe that marriage is a sacrament,’” Gingrey said. “I’m not ashamed to say that, and I won’t be ashamed to say that, and I hope our nominee on my side of the aisle will not back away from saying that and stand strongly.” Gingrey, who is up for re-election this fall, said he will…

Politicians use their power to do all the wrong things for Americans.
Politics is a difficult game, not only for politicians, but also for the American people. Politicians seem to care more about being re-elected, and getting paid by lobbyists, than standing up for what they truly believe in. Countless bills are pushed, or pork-barreled, through Congress and many of them lead to problems no politician had even imagined, because no one took the time needed to actually analyze what the consequences of the bill might be. During his quest for the republican nomination, Rick Perry, a Tea Party favorite, and the current governor of Texas, pledged to repeal, should he have become president, the most controversial piece of legislation of the 21st Century, the Affordable Care Act, with an executive order on his …

State Sen. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville, has announced a bid for re-election in District 14, which now includes most of Bartow and Cherokee counties and a portion of Cobb. A shift in his district was approved by the General Assembly last year in redistricting, which resulted from the 2010 Census. "The borders of my district may change, but my resolve to work for Georgia and for the benefit of my constituents has not changed," Loudermilk said in a press release. "I pledge to the 14th District to continue to represent our northwest Georgia conservative values of faith, family and freedom, and to serve all my constituents to the best of my ability." Loudermilk, a Republican, said he plans to qualify for re-election later this month. Read …

Bartow County's GOP is calling on the board of education "to follow the letter of the law and declare the vote to fill the Post 5 seat null and void."
Following ongoing controversy over the appointment of Bartow County Board of Education District 5 representative Anna Sullivan, the Bartow County Republican Party unanimously passed a resolution calling on the school board to void its vote and leave the seat empty until July's special election. GOP leaders say by law Sullivan's seat, which was left vacant by Larry Parker's resignation, should have been vacant until filled in an election. The local party also opposes a property tax hike school system officials proposed in a round of budget cuts, including layoffs and additional furloughs, to offset declining local and state funding. The GOP resolution adopted Friday is: WHEREAS O.C.G.A.§ 20-2-54.1, the code section dealing with vacancies on…

The realigned state Senate district that covers all Floyd County and portions of three others is back up to two confirmed contenders. While previous State Transportation Board member and Floyd Commission chairman David Doss threw his hat Dec. 3 on his dad's birthday, former Floyd commissioner Chuck Hufstetler this week announced a bid for the Georgia Senate District 52 seat. Fellow GOP candidate and a third former Floyd commissioner, Chad Whitfield had said he'd enter the race, but dropped out, citing a pending business deal and lack of financial support from donors this year, Rome News-Tribune reported. Would a Bartow candidate have a shot in the District 52 race against at least two Floyd natives? Who should run for the seat? Tell us in …

Bartow County's board of education erred in appointing Anna Sullivan to fill a Post 5 vacancy, and she should step down.
LexisNexis defines the Rule of Law as follows: “The Rule of Law, in its most basic form, is the principle that no one is above the law. The rule follows logically from the idea that truth, and therefore law, is based upon fundamental principles which can be discovered, but which cannot be created through an act of will. The most important application of the rule of law is the principle that governmental authority is legitimately exercised only in accordance with written, publicly disclosed laws adopted and enforced in accordance with established procedural steps that are referred to as due process. The principle is intended to be a safeguard against arbitrary governance, whether by a totalitarian leader or by mob rule. Thus, the rule of …
