I feel strongly there is never a need to spank a child. As adults, it is our responsibility to have perspective and self control, and we must realize that hitting is harmful on many levels and there are always alternative ways to discipline. Instead of spanking, you could take away a privilege or have a heart-to-heart about why a specific behavior is unacceptable to you. Wait until things have calmed down and then try reasoning with your child.
