Traveling exhibit needs entries from artists in Georgia to benefit non-profit.
A new arts project needs Cartersville participants for a traveling exhibit. Arts On The Creek's Block Party, open to all Georgia residents ages 6 and over, is registering participants at www.artsonthecreek.org. Artists will receive one or more 2”x2”x6” blocks of wood with which they will create a work of art that embodies their vision for “community.” The entry fee is $30 and includes mailing of the blocks to artists and entry into the online and/or traveling exhibition. Blocks will be mailed beginning May 8-10 and are due back by June 21. Photos of entries will be posted on the website for voting. The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on. The entry by Stacie Stamper honors the work of the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world. "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. Booth Western Art Museum with a reception Thursday opened its annual Bartow County and Cartersville City Schools Elementary Art Exhibit in the Borderlands Gallery. On view through May 12, it features a number of pieces that are representative of the work from our local city and many county elementary schools. For the fifth year in a row, art teachers from 10 Bartow schools and Cartersville Elementary School have selected the best pieces from their school to be represented in the show. All of the artwork displayed are pieces that have been created by the students, kindergarten through fifth-grade, throughout the 2012-2013 school year. Kayla Cannon will appear on the April 19 episode of Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta, a TLC show, according to the Discovery Channel's Steven Leonardi. Cannon is an Adairsville High School grad now employed by The Hair Depot in Adairsville, according to her Facebook page.
