"For most of the city's firefighting history, a fire station of some sort has been located at the corner of Church and Erwin streets," according to the city of Cartersville's website. History came to an end with the fire department's recent move to the new public safety headquarters building on Cassville Road.
The old Station 1, a two-story building that saw a 1979 addition to house modern-day fire trucks and equipment, was originally erected in 1917 and included City Hall and the fire and police departments.

Every property owned by the city or county that are vacant needs to be sold so they will be put back on the tax books.maybe then taxes can be lowered.

Great idea! Cratersville needs more upscale businesses. Would be a great addition to roselawn & grand gables weddings-a convenient place for guests to stay, hold rehearsal dinners, etc. also could attract more corporate businesses that would like to have meetings in a historic venue close enough to Atlanta & Chattanooga, without dealing with 'big city' , chaos, costs, etc. Hope someone has the capital to make that idea become a possibility.

How about something for our teens, maybe it would keep them off the streets and out of trouble. Right now the only thing Cartersville offers its teens is sports and not everyone plays a sport.

A boutique hotel? How in the world would you hope to sustain it? The location alone is a negative. What about parking? It's one thing to have a cookie-cutter Fairfield Inn right off the exit and loyal Hilton customers will always be willing to drive into town to find the Hilton Garden Inn. Even a property with less than 100 rooms (which classifies a boutique hotel) would be a stretch given the size of the old fire station. Every boutique hotel I know of has a 'theme'...what would the theme for this one be? And I certainly don't know where the staff would come from to truly give the personalized anticipatory guest service that differentiates 'boutique' from 'standard'...they don't live in Cartersville!

from Hal: "Use the fire house as a community center for multiple uses. Invest tax dollars to upgrade the facility so that it could serve as a senior activities center, cultural center, and possibly as a volunteer coordination office (i.e., as charitable non-profits have a need for volunteers the coordination office could match volunteers with agency needs). Possibly use the space (would need moveable dividers) for school art exhibitions.
