Superintendent: Fewer Classes, Teachers with Periods

Howard Hinesley said Cartersville High School could see more virtual classes to offset the effects of moving from its 4x4 block schedule.

Cartersville Schools Superintendent Howard Hinesley confirmed system leaders "forced" high school faculty to choose between a six- or seven-period schedule. The block was not an option.
The system will save money by offering fewer classes at the high school, which will require fewer teachers.
Hinesley denied knowlege of a high school committee that three years ago found no significant financial difference betweens periods and the block.
The high school council was not involved in the decision to change schedules, Hinesley said.

We sat down with Cartersville Schools Superintendent Howard Hinesley to ask a few questions about Cartersville High Schools' move from a block schedule to the seven-period plan a task force now has recommended.
