Senior Stress

A Cartersville High School journalism student discusses the stresses involved with being a high school senior.

It's the time of year when we all begin to become more and more busy in our daily lives. The school year has started back along with all the exciting sports and clubs that the fall season brings. Not only have the academic and extracurricular activities grasped everyone's attention, but other important tasks also lie on the minds of many seniors: college applications.

Early admission applications to large universities have already opened and smaller schools are not far behind. However, with the application process comes many important deadlines, for example deadlines for scholarships. Scholarships hold the key for students to be able to attend colleges and other universities, which in turn, can cause tremendous stress for applications. Listing all your grades, extracurricular activities, volunteer programs, organizational projects, sports, etc. can determine if you are given the approval you so desperately desire. This is enough to make any high school student crazy.

Upon waiting for approval, a high school senior must continue with his high school courses necessary for graduation. As we run in multiple directions, juggling dozens of activities, we eventually find time to breathe. In our moment of clear thinking we realize we've juggled it all before and made it this far, just another day in the life of a high school senior.
