Constituents who again questioned the Bartow County school board about a recent Southern Association of Colleges and Schools complaint and the previous appointment of Post 5 representative Anna Sullivan were met with an answer from Superintendent John Harper that seems to indicate continued dissension.
The Monday work session follows a SACS recommendation the school system take action to promote a functional and cohesive board and a lawsuit disputing legality of Sullivan’s appointment. It wasn't resolved prior to the July 31 primary election, in which Sullivan won the contested seat.
Harper said he feels "personal disagreements between board members" in recent months are "damaging to the school system," BartowPolitics.com reports. He pointed to Post 4 representative Wanda Cagle Gray as the board member SACS' recommendation letter indicates may be in violation of ethical standards.
Gray denied she's the board member in possible violation, according to BartowPolitics.com, which published the attached documents from speakers at the work session.

But the three speakers put Harper and the board on notice they're not satisfied with the school system's response to concerns about issues raised in the SACS complaint Gray filed and the board's policy or plans regarding future appointments.
"I do believe the SACS complaint was warranted and I’m disappointed with the superintendent’s refusal to answer my direct questions from the last board meeting, especially when written copy was supplied so there would be no mistaking what information and answers I was requesting," Alison Guyton said, The Daily Tribune News reports.
The school board meets Monday at 6 p.m. for regular business.

Typical. Davis Nelson has 3 votes in his pocket and they tell Harper what to do. So when SACS (who Nelson has worked for) contacts Harper, instead of telling the truth, he blames Gray. I call BS.

Ms Gray continues to represent her district by asking question that have been asked by her constituents. How is this causing disharmony...unless, as Ed Hornyak says, something is amiss?
I do hope the text msgs that Ms. Gray refers to in her address, will shed some light on what other board members have said. I think they will!!! I don't believe she makes empty statements.
