Restaurant Review: Moore's Gourmet Market

A quaint place to enjoy a great meal.

Nestled among the historic old houses on Fite Street, is a local gem offering down-home good cookin’ in a quaint restaurant. Moore’s is also one of the few places in town that offers outside seating, making it a coveted destination spot on a beautiful day.

I went for lunch with my husband on a Thursday. On the way to the restaurant, I told him that I wanted to sit outside but it was hot out and he wasn’t feeling it. However, when we got there and he saw that they have giant fans outside to keep their customers cool, he had a change of heart. I thoroughly enjoy drinking a glass of cold white wine outside on a hot day, so I was very happy that he decided to humor me.

The inside of the restaurant is rustic and country while the outside feels like a city café. It has an eclectic menu with everything from fancy salads and sandwiches to salmon, Jambalaya and catfish. The daily specials rotate and make use of fresh, seasonal ingredients.

My husband ordered a Chicken Provolone sandwich with lettuce, tomato and pesto aioli with a side of sweet potato fries. I ordered a grilled chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette, a side of sweet potato fries and a glass of Chardonnay (of course).

The sandwich had a beautiful presentation. It was served on a crusty, slightly chewy hoagie roll. The pesto aioli was very subtle. My husband commented that it was a little too subtle, but tasty nonetheless.

I enjoyed the variety of ingredients on my grilled chicken salad. The hardboiled egg and sprinkling of cheese took it up a notch from a typical house salad.

Though the salad was large, and varied enough to fill me up, the sweet potato fries made my meal complete. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a healthy salad paired with something a little decadent, such as fries. They were of a medium thickness and cooked just long enough to be crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. They were not soggy, which is the sad fate of many sweet potato fries. I heartily recommend them if you find yourself dining at Moore’s. They are served with a side of marshmallow fluff, which I tried, but didn’t end up using because I prefer my fires plain with a little salt. Moore’s also has sweet potato puffs (like a Tater Tot) on the menu and I’m looking forward to trying those next time.

Moore’s Gourmet Market has a Facebook page on which it posts daily specials. It typically highlights a main course along with a daily soup and quiche. Moore's also caters events and specialize in design, décor and clean up.

Perhaps the greatest feature of this restaurant, to me, is the outside seating. I can imagine going back on a Friday or Saturday night and enjoying a cold beer in a warm summer breeze. Moore’s is open 7 days a week and remains open on Sundays until 9 p.m., another rare treat in Cartersville!
