Poll: Do Restaurant Inspections Matter?

Answer our poll and let us know how important scores are in your dining decisions.

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the kitchen of your favorite restaurant? Is the food handled properly? Are the workers washing their hands? Is it an overall clean environment where our food is being prepared?

Each Sunday, Cartersville Patch publishes scores from restaurant inspections performed the previous week.

One local restaurant that scored a C on its latest inspection will close for renovations. According to the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority, Antonino's Italian Grotto expects to reopen mid-September.

In addition to a food temperature violation, Antonino's had several related to facilities. But we'd like to know just how important scores are to you.

Would a C or lower score prevent you from going to a restaurant? How big a factor are restaurant inspection scores in your food and dining decisions?

  • How important are restaurant inspection scores?

    • Very important. I don't eat at restaurants with low scores.

    • It depends on the violation(s) that led to the low score.

I had a bad experience at Antonino's a few years ago that completely turned me against the place. I went with a friend for a late lunch and we ordered calamari that came to the table overcooked and chewy. The owner walked by our table and asked how things were. When we told him about the calamari he proceeded to put his hand in the bowl, grab a piece, eat it and then said "Oh, tastes fine to me, have some more." I was appalled that he had put his hand in my food and then expected me to eat it. That was the one and only time I've been there and after seeing this inspection I'll certainly never go back.

I look at the score before I order. I also read to see what the problem was. I don't want to die for a meal!

I stopped at a Dari King in Harlan Kentucky one time that had a score of 35. I was shocked that it was still open.
