17-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Alleged Home Invasions

Cartersville Police Department investigators say Jerry Jerome Kilgore is responsible for two alleged burglaries, one of which involved an alleged rape and another an alleged attempted rape.

Cartersville Police Department investigators have charged a teen already in law enforcement custody with two alleged home invasions.

According to the press release, arrest warrants taken for Jerry Jerome Kilgore, 17, of 366 Old Mill Road, Apt. 507, Cartersville, are in connection with home invasions that took place on July 14 and Aug. 9.

Kilgore was already in jail in connection with a Pine Grove Road incident that occurred Aug. 5. He allegedly attempted to snatch a woman's purse.

In the latest round of charges, Kilgore was charged with rape, aggravated assault, battery, false imprisonment, burglary and obstruction of an emergency phone call in connection with an alleged home invasion on Old Mill Road.

He was also charged in connection with a third incident, another alleged home invasion, on Pine Grove Road and faces several counts—criminal attempt to commit rape, aggravated assault, burglary, false imprisonment, battery and obstruction of an emergency phone call.

How many times can you use the word 'alleged'? How about saying he has been charged with X. You don't need to say alleged if you just report what he has actually been charged with something. Just state facts. Or say 'police say this scumbag committed the following crimes'.

Did the police really say he was involved with "alleged burglaries"? I doubt it.
"Cartersville Police Department investigators say Jerry Jerome Kilgore is responsible for two alleged burglaries, one of which involved an alleged rape and another an alleged attempted rape." How about you quote exactly what they said. That will relieve you of your perceived liability.

If you really are that worried about slander/libel you should get out of this line of work or learn the law.

I think that if simply including the word "alleged" in your press release will mitigate the chances of having the press release used against you for prejudicial publicity, it's a small price to pay. But otherwise, I agree with you.

Circumstances like this is unpredictable, that's why prevention is still better than cure. Thus, I would highly suggest this App that I am using a few months from now, which I'm pretty sure not only yourself could benifit but the rest of your siblings. It's a panic button that is easy installed on your smartphone and have a quick access to 911 with a Safety Neighbor program. You can check it out here http://safetrec.com/
