Plane Crash Kills 1 in Bartow

The single-engine aircraft went down in a field along Floyd Church Road this afternoon with just the pilot aboard.

The dead pilot has been tentatively identified, Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton told the Rome News-Tribune, but the name is being withheld until relatives are notified.

A small airplane crashed in Bartow County in the Taylorsville area this afternoon, killing the pilot.

reports that the crash occurred at 50 Floyd Church Rd. at 4:38 p.m.

Footage on Fox 5 showed the shattered remains of the small plane in the middle of a field.

The plane shattered but did not spark a fire, The Daily Tribune News reported.

The pilot was the only person on the single-engine plane, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

According to WSB-TV, it's not yet known whether the plane was heading to or from the Cartersville airport, which is about four miles from the crash site.
