Man Shot, Killed in Apparent Robbery

The 28-year-old Cartersville man, who was found at a MLK Jr. Drive car wash, had been "mudding" with family early Sunday

A local man was shot and killed last night in an apparent robbery and Cartersville police have no suspects.

Chief Tommy Culpepper said in a news release officers were dispatched at 11:08 p.m. to the Sun-Glo Car Wash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in response to a call about a man lying in the car wash next to a pickup truck.

When they arrived, officers found Randal Statler Jr., 28, of Cartersville, who was deceased.

Authorities believe Statler, who appears to have been shot once, was the victim of a robbery. He apparently had been “mudding” earlier with family members and went to the car wash to clean his pickup truck.

Investigators don't know how much, if any, money was taken from Statler.

"We have had several officers and investigators working on this unfortunate incident throughout the night," Culpepper said in a statement. The investigation continues.

I was wondering the exact same thing when I read about this. I'll answer for them "We didn't have the money to keep it staffed." Yeah right.

They just moved to the new public safety headquarters building on Cassville Road. I think the move was sometime last week. Here's more about the new building: http://patch.com/A-m7fT and photos http://patch.com/A-wkhf

RJ was an amazing person and didn't deserve to die this way. He would have given the shooter his money willingly. I hope the person responsible burns in hell. Rip RJ you will be truly missed.

Concerned, our thoughts and prayers are with you and all those affected by this tragedy. Can you tell us a little more about RJ? Where did he go to school?

RJ was an awesome friend and a good person! He would have done anything for anyone! His life ended decades to early because of a coward that took his life. Cartersville Police or GBI should find this guy as if it was a cop who lost their life. RJ graduated class of 2002 with me at Cherokee High. He lived in Georgia, but has family in Canada. Come out and show your support of RJ and those lost innocent lives.

Brande,
Really, you consider my response a personal attack when a guy is murdered washing
his car right near the high school. If that was your relative, would you think the same.
Justice is law enforcement wasting this piece of trash that took an innocent life.
